2 What Hypnotherapy Is

Hypnotherapy is a complementary approach that uses a relaxed, focused state to support your own awareness and change.

The practitioner does not "control" you. Throughout the session you remain able to choose your own actions, and you may open your eyes or stop at any time.

Hypnotherapy is not a medical service, a form of psychotherapy, or psychiatric treatment. It does not involve diagnosis or changes to medication, and does not replace existing medical or psychological care.

3 Scope of This Consent

This form applies to the following hypnotherapy sessions.

FormatDuration
Short Hypnotherapy Session50 minutes
Long Hypnotherapy SessionUp to 3 hours

Approaches used in sessions may include:

Where sessions involve trauma or significant anxiety, please understand that although the practitioner is a Certified Public Psychologist, hypnotherapy as a method has limits to what it can address. Should your symptoms worsen through the course of sessions, you agree to accept referral to appropriate medical services.

Psychological counselling (ACT, CBT, EMDR and similar) is covered separately.

4 Contraindications

Please discuss with the practitioner and your treating physician in advance if any of the following apply. Sessions may be declined, or medical approval may be required.

☐ None of the above apply to me.

☐ Some of the above apply, and I consent following separate discussion with the practitioner.

5 Online (Remote) Sessions

5.1 Connection and environment

5.2 Recording

Sessions are not recorded.

Where, in the course of the work, the practitioner judges that a recording would be of benefit, it may be suggested — for instance, where listening back at home to the suggestions given in a session seems likely to help.

Any recording requires your consent on that occasion. Declining has no effect whatsoever on the content or quality of your sessions.

Where a recording is made, it is held by the practitioner in a password-protected environment and deleted within one month. Where it is judged necessary to retain it for ongoing work, it will in no case be held beyond six months. It will be deleted promptly at any time on your request.

☐ I have read and understood the above

5.3 Emergencies

Given the nature of remote sessions, the practitioner cannot physically guarantee your bodily safety during a session. You are responsible for ensuring your environment is safe (for example, free from the risk of falling), and for providing an emergency contact below.

Relationship
Telephone

6 Referral to Other Professionals

Where medical or psychiatric concerns arise during a session that fall outside the practitioner's scope, the session may be paused and you may be advised to consult a doctor, psychiatrist, or other specialist.

Please understand that this is done with your safety as the first priority.

7 Risks and Limitations

8 Confidentiality and Data

The content of sessions and your personal information will not be disclosed to third parties, except where disclosure is required by law (for example, where there is risk of harm to yourself or others).

As clients come from a range of countries, data is handled in a manner consistent with the intent of relevant data protection legislation (for example, the EU General Data Protection Regulation, GDPR).
